"I am truly inspired by the quality of fair and impartial journalism displayed in this contest. This sort of work is exhibited on a state level every year in our editorial contest, but it is especially heartening to see such reporting from news outlets large and small, all across the country. We used the quote from Adolph Ochs, “To give news impartially, without fear or favor,” as the baseline for judging, and these winners exemplify this dedication exactly. Reporting that uncovers hard truths reminds us all that democracy demands journalism."
"Each of the six finalist entries were not just stories told, but testaments to the quest for truth, upheld by the pillars of objectivity, impartiality, integrity and fairness. All of the finalists did a terrific job with fair reporting, covering all sides of the issue. I was thrilled to be part of the judging group for such prestigious awards.”

"The Los Angeles Times series of reports into chronic misconduct over the years in the Los Angeles Fire Department is a prime example of unbiased and unwavering journalism that holds those who are supposedly dedicated to serving the public accountable for their miserable failure to do so. It is journalism with integrity at its best.”
"CNN provided powerful, comprehensive reporting on a decades-long effort by the highest ranking leaders in the U.S. Coast Guard to conceal and cover up a consistent pattern of sexual misconduct, including rapes and assaults. This reporting is a top-notch example of media watchdogs holding the powerful accountable and bringing attention to the powerless victims, who, in this case, have gone decades without seeing any justice."
